Alright, I've been thinking about this for a while now, and I've finally decided to stop being lazy and write it. This is my idea for a new 25-man Caverns of Time raid that I came up with a while back.
The Background
The Bronze Dragonflight has discovered that Infinite Dragonflight is at it again, and this time, they've gone back to another major battle - to the Battle of Blackrock Mountain that ended the
Second War
.
In the original timeline, Lord Anduin Lothar was ambushed by a group of Doomhammer's Orcs, and was killed in single combat by the Warchief himself. Doomhammer had hoped that Lothar's death would break the Alliance's will to fight, but it instead has the opposite effect. Turalyon, Lothar's second in command, took up Lothar's broken sword and led the charge into the Orcish armies that drove them out of Blackrock Mountain, and the Alliance armies pursued the Orcs all the way to the Dark Portal, and crushed them at last.
The Infinite Dragonflight has changed time once again, and has foiled Doomhammer's attempted ambush of Lord Lothar. Lothar survived, and is now leading the attack on Blackrock Mountain. The Infinite Dragonflight has added their considerable powers to the side of the Orcs, giving them overwhelming numbers that the Alliance cant hope to defeat. Without the death of Lothar to spur their cause, and with the strange powers of the Infinite Dragonflight set against them, the Alliance will surely lose the battle.
If the Alliance fails to defeat the Orcs, the Legion will have triumphed in Azeroth, and it will only be a matter of time before they make their way to Kalimdor. Without the armies of the Alliance and the Orcs to aid them, the Night Elves will be defeated, Archimonde will absorb the powers of the World Tree, and the Legion will grow even more powerful.
The Solution
The Bronze Dragonflight is recruiting adventurers to aid them once again in fixing the timeline. It's too late to stop the Infinite from foiling the ambush, so instead you have several other objectives you must complete to repair time.
1) The numbers of the Orcs must be thinned enough that the Alliance has a fighting chance.
2) Kill the general of the Infinite forces.
3) Stop Cho'Gall from summoning demons to aid the Orcs.
4)
Kill Anduin Lothar.
With Anduin Lothar alive, the timeline could be changed in many ways, both bad and good. The Bronze Dragonflight is unwilling to take the risk of an unforeseen complication arising with the survival of Lord Lothar.
The Instance
You appear in the cave north of the Ruins of Thaurissan in the Burning Steppes. Outside the cave are two Bronze dragons. They inform you that you must take the shape of Alliance soldiers so you wont arouse suspicion. All party members will become Humans and Dwarves.
Next, you are directed south, to where the Alliance and Horde are battling near Dreadmaul Rock. You must kill 100 Horde soldiers before all the Alliance troops in the area are killed. The Orcs will spawn in the caves in Dreadmaul rock and will attack in ten waves of ten, with a miniboss Blademaster or Warlocks in each group. After each mini boss has been killed or three minutes has passed, the next wave will spawn. Once 100 Orcs are dead, the Alliance front will advance. You will be ordered by Uther the Lightbringer to go to the Alliance camp near the Pillar of Ash to receive your next instructions.
Once you arrive at the camp, you will see Lothar ride up on his horse with a handful a knights and begin a conversation with Uther and Turalyon explaining how he survived the ambush with the aid of several "dragon-like creatures". Turalyon will inform Lothar that the Ogre Mage Cho'Gall is summoning demons to the east, preventing their advance. Uther will recommend your group as a strike team to kill Cho'Gall, citing your excellent combat skills at Dreadmaul Rock. Lothar will agree, and he orders you to find and kill Cho'Gall and any demons he has summoned.
You head east, fighting many Orcs and Demons along the way, until you reach an area far south of Blackrock Mountain. There you will see Cho'Gall and a large summoning circle. As you reach him, he tells you that you are too late, and he has finished the ritual. A large Pit Lord appears in the center of the circle.
You battle the Pit Lord while Cho'Gall stands on a rock out of reach, casting spells at your raid and summoning adds to kill. Once the Pit Lord reaches 70% health, Cho'Gall jumps down from the rock and joins the fight, healing the Pit Lord back to full health. You must concentrate all attacks on Cho'Gall, as the Pit Lord will be healed whenever it falls below 70% health. It cannot be CC'd, and will continue attacking your raid with many new abilities that force you to kill Cho'Gall as fast as possible before he wipes your raid.
When Cho'Gall reaches 10% health, he will stun your raid for a short time and give a short speech about not "willing to die for that fool Doomhammer. My
new Master
will give me power beyond your ability to comprehend". He then despawns, leaving the raid to kill the Pit Lord.
Once the Pit Lord is dead, a Bronze dragon appears and tells you that the Alliance camp is under attack, and by talking to him, you can be quickl yflown back to the outskirts of the camp, where you will see the Infinite Dragonflight attacking the Alliance soldiers. You must battle your way through the camp until you reach Uther. The Infinite Dragonflight is attempting to kill him, and you must defend him and kill all enemies who attack.
Eventually, the Infinite General will spawn. He tells Uther "Your defenders are not what they seem, Paladin. If I were you, I would have them executed. Unfortunately, you wont live long enough to give that order." He then attacks, spawning four portals that more dragons come out of. Each portal has a health bar, and gives the General a different ability, similar to Sartharion in the Obsidion Sanctum. You can either kill him with all portals still up or bring down the portals first. Uther will fight alongside you, like Thrall or Jaina on Mount Hyjal or Arthas in CoS. If he dies, you fail the encounter.

Once the General is dead, you receive a whisper from the Bronze dragon who flew you to the camp, and you return to the outskirts to speak with him. He tells you that the final assault is ready to begin, and your disguises must change. He then changes you all into Orcs, and teleports you into Blackrock Mountain, near LBRS. There you will see Doomhammer talking with several of his captains, discussing the coming attack. Suddenly, Alliance soldiers appear. They had used magic to sneak unseen into the Mountain, and are attacking from the inside while the main army attacks the front. You must escort Doomhammer outside to the front lines, killing any Alliance soldiers in the way. Once you reach the outside of the Mountain, you see a short scene in which Lothar walks up the path to the front gates and demands Doomhammer's surrender. Doomhammer refuses, and Lothar orders his knights to attack, then retreats back down the path. You once again fight several waves of soldiers, each one with a miniboss, an Archmage or a Mountain King. A new wave will spawn every four minutes or after the miniboss is killed.
Finally, after all waves are defeated, Doomhammer leads you down the path to Lothar. Another short conversation is had between him and Doomhammer, then the final battle commences.
Lord Anduin Lothar
Doomhammer helps you fight Lothar for one minute, but then Lothar strikes him with his shield and knocks him unconscious. You must then continue the fight alone.
Phase One
Lothar begins the battle using a simple autoattack until Doomhammer is knocked out. Once he is out of the fight, Lothar begins using his abilities. During phase one, he has four abilities that he uses.
* Shield Slam - Knocks back the target with the highest aggro and stuns them for ten seconds, and removes all of the target's aggro. This is used once every thirty seconds.
* Heroic Cleave - Strikes all enemies in melee range in 360 degrees for 60k damage. It has a 2 second cast, so there is time to run out, but not much.
* Intercept - He will use this on a random raid member, stunning them for five seconds and dealing 90% of their total health in damage. If Heroic Cleave is used soon afterwards, they will be killed. Lothar must be pulled away from anyone who has been hit before he cleaves them.
* Titanic Throw - Will throw a hammer at a random raid member that is not in melee range. Deals 15k damage and gives the "Concussed" debuff, reducing damage and movement speed by 30% for thirty seconds. Will also remove effects that give immunity, such as Ice Block or Divine Shield.
Phase Two
Phase Two starts at 75%, when Lothar shouts "Out of my way, peons! I have business to finish with your Warchief. Knights! Aid me!"
Three knights will spawn from the south and gallop toward your raid. They must be picked up at once before they reach you, or they will quickly cause a wipe. The three knights have several abilities, such as Smite, Hammer of Justice, and Sunder Armor.
In this phase, Lothar will gain two new abilities:
* Blade Flurry - Throws a blade at any raid member who deals a critical hit for 10k damage. Will not occur more than once every three seconds.
* Fury - Increases attack speed of himself and the three knights by 40%, and causes attacks to remove 5% of the targets armor, stacking 20 times.
Phase Three
Phase three will come when Lothar reaches 40%, or all the knights are killed. Lothar will shout "Enough! It is time to end this nonsense!" He will then discard his shield and sword and draw
Ashkandi
. This means he will not longer use shield slam. He will hit much harder during this phase, and he will use Fury more often, meaning you must switch tanks almost every three hits, or one of them will be one shot.
Lothar will also no longer use Heroic Cleave. Instead, he will shout "Feel my fury!" and all melee DPS will have a very short amount of time before he begins to Bladestorm. He will be mobile while doing this, and will pursue a random raid member for twenty seconds. No abilities can harm him while he is doing this, and he is immune to snares. Anyone who is caught will be instantly killed. Everyone must stay out of range until he stops, then continue DPS.
Phase Four
At 15%, Lothar will shout "You are FINISHED!" and will enter a permanent Fury, as will the knights. He will continue to Bladestorm and use his other abilities during this phase, with increased damage. Finally, once he reaches 1 health, the battle stops, and Lothar falls to his knees. Doomhammer regains consciousness, and walks over to him. They have a short conversation, then Doomhammer kills Lothar.
Doomhammer goes back into Blackrock Mountain, and the bronze dragon appears. He gives you your Human and Dwarf disguises once again, just as Turalyon runs up with several Alliance soldiers. Seeing Lothar's body, he gives a short speech to his men, the picks up Lothar's sword. The Alliance Army then charges into Blackrock Mountain. A portal appears next to you taking you back to the Caverns of Time.

So, what do you think of it? Yes, I know, very unlikely that they would ever put anything even remotely like this in the game, but I was bored and I felt like writing. it. Tell me what you think.

I like it, but it should end with
The 1 Ring
being thrown into the Fires of Blackrock Mountain by a Gnome or player under the effects of
Pygmy Oil
.

And your one of the reasons numbers aren't allowed when you create a character, so we dun have a bunch of legolas1111's running around.
As much I love the Lord of the Rings, making spin offs every which way is getting annoying.
I love this idea for the instance and I highly reccomend as a963b789 said, you should try and flesh out more of a story so it's not like run to X do Y and return to Z.

To be annoying, Hyjal is farther than Blackrock Mountain (isn't it? no? ok.). Although, there wasn't infinite dragon flight there, so...you win i guess.

Now this was a well-planned idea, I must say. Maybe Blizzard will "steal" it, and place an NPC in it with your name? Who can say? :-)

Win. :)
I like this idea, a lot. ^_^

Haha thanks guys :)
I would have written a little more to flesh out the story, but it was getting to be around 2 in the morning, and I was too tired to write any more.

Ah, no, my mistake. Black Morass DID occur before this. I'll fix that.

The biggest thing about this is that the timeline itself is all messed for the Battle anyways; part of the Lore still says Lothar was ambushed and killed during the Battle, other Lore (Tides of Darkness) says he challenged Doomhammer to a one on one duel and when he fell Turaylon stepped up and kicked the Warchief with a broken sword and the Light. Until they finally get that all dealt with, might be a bad idea to create an entire instance here. But all in all, well thought out.

This thread is win. The idea is well though, although the battle against Anduin is a little...melee unfriendly. More than a usual boss fight would be - go pressure those ranged DPS and healers a little too :)
The speeches/dialogues are also a bit more than in a normal raid. Not that I mind, I love extra pieces of Lore and conversations to listen to. I am merely mentioning it as an observation, not as feedback.
Other than that, I am looking forward to the next time you are bored out of your mind and decide to write something like that again :)
P.S. Kudos for formatting it well, it's easy to read!

Why would the Infinite Dragonflight help the Horde? Up until now they have mainly had pro-alliance goals:
Stop the Horde from entering Azeroth.
Stop the Horde from gaining strength from a new Warchief.
Prevent the future Lich King from slaying thousands of Alliance citizens.
They've never done anything pro-Horde before.

This goes with the whole Infinite Flight is really a creation of Nozdormu's trying to stave off his death thing: What if the thing that is suppose to be his final excutioner is the Horde, that could be why the Flight is so hell bent on doing things that keep the Horde from ever forming/posing a threat.(and yes I know a little off topic but stil heh.)

Meh. I see it more as Nozdormu knowing that he has to die in order to save a certain time of Azeroth, so the Infinite is just his way of "preparing" the heroes of Azeroth for killing him.
I mean, he knows he's going to die and that there's nothing he can do about it. Why bother trying to stave it off?
