Jang'Thraze the Protector (https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=11086#00Rz) in combination with Sang'Thraze the Deflector (https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=9379) are combined to create Sul'thraze, The Lasher (https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=9372).

This took me about 20 Zul'Farrak runs in total to get. Im level 51 now, and I can promise you it is worth the runs.
If you start running Zul'Farak at around level 45, it will be giving you a ton of experience, a nice set of gear, and of course, the chance at Sul'thraze.

Best for a paladin or warrior. I would not reccommend it to a hunter, since stats are a bit better in my opinion, but if you feel that you could you use the high base damage, go for it!

The shield that this weapon procs works similar to priests' Power Word: Shield, so you're safe from casting time interruptions while it's up. That alone makes this an excellent paladin weapon, since you can get a 'free' heal off every time it procs.

Why not duel weild these two swords instead of combining them for a substandard 2 hander? Duel wielding them will net you about 120dps plus the bubble and the parry rating...as a prot warrior that duel wields when not using shield I findthis a MUCH better option than the 2 hander. More rage, more dps...maybe ill combine them before i vendor it.... any thoughts?

Im a lvl 49 warrior and the only reason that i still do ZF is to get this sword.

I have Sang'thraze and some days ago Jang'thraze dropped to. I said b4 the instance that i already had sang'thraze and the others agreed not to need on it. But when the sword drops the lvl 44 hunter says "can i need?" and b4 someone had answered he needed and won it... his second time in ZF.. just want to kill that mf..

Not a hunter combo here. Sorry boys. You should keep to your two hand axes kthxbai.

I could care less if you guys get into close combat a lot. These are NOT hunter weapons. They are not even remotely beneficial in the lowest of terms to a hunter. I was expecting more rogues to post that it's good for them too (which I wouldn't object too. If it weren't for the two hander these would be great for either class) but no, apparently there are so many damned hunters in this game that they just flood out all of the excess opinions. These are not hunter weapons, they never will be. gg

Chance to parry on a hunter? Give me a break. Hunters shouldn't be in close combat long enough to even parry at all. Ever hear of wingclip and run, fd and ice trap, scatter shot + aotc? Get over yourselves, you have no reason to stay in close combat for more than 3 seconds unless you're just screwing around with someone.

please hunters...don't be lured by the fact that you simply CAN use this weapon. it's NOT meant for you.

I have a 60 hunter and warrior and I'd never use such a thing on my hunter.
of course hunters DO end up in melee at times, but you shouldn't STAY in melee. a hunter is ALWAYS best at range. ALWAYS.

a warrior is ALWAYS best in melee. thus, this is for them, or pally.

hunters, get a weapon with good stats on it...that's what you need most...chance to crit...attack power...agility...maybe some stamina.

do not be LURED just cause it looks uber, or is purple...and cheat a warrior out of a weapon that will do him/her 100% more good than you.

Ok just my two cents on this particular item that everyone is chasing. First off all I'd like to say is unless you are a melee based class who can use 2h weapons stop chasing this particularly hard to find sword because it is wasted on your trash character. For example hunters... why the f##k would a hunter, whose main effectiveness is a ranged weapon want to go for this item that doesn't even give you any agility? Its a waste of your time because for your class, to be honest you are better off with some generic green drop sword of agility, monkey, tiger... etc etc. Not to mention you would be out melee'd anyway because in terms of melee combat hunters dont hit as hard as warriors, pallys, or rogues. Hunters in melee will hit harder than a caster, and thats about it. This sword most benefits melee classes, especially warriors, and pally's. Other then that dont waste your time. So in laymen's terms, this weapon should only be chased by a war, or pally. Lrn2play

U have to have Jang equippted in order to combine=then u right click jang and bam u have a 50 epic wep.

I see that some hunters say it is a hunterwep, and that they should be allowed to roll on it equally to warriors.
Firstly: The proc is more for warriors than hunters, as they tank.
If a hunter says that it is a good proc for them, that *!@#$%^ is a goddamn noob. :)
A hunter should generally never go melee unless it is to use Wingclip, hunters are RANGED, NOT melee. So a meleeweapon should have good stats for them, not pwn DPS.

As a rogue, I would never even think about rolling over a warrior or a paladin in this matter. It would not be neccesary for a rogue anyway, as we can use Vanquishers and Sword of Serenity/Sword of Omen.

I ran the instance with some guildies and both swords dropped, our hunter wanted to roll on it.

I told him that I would then roll on every blue and epic bow that ever dropped, seeing as how I COULD use those for pulling...

He opted not to roll. How pissed would you be as a hunter if a warrior outrolled you for an epic bow? Now you know how we feel.

i dont know where it came from but so many people that roll a hunter get this crazy idea that they are some sort of ultimate fighting machine: great ranged attacks, mail armor, tracking, ability to wield melee, and oh yea - a pet

the pet is your melee (your tank) - not you

and before a person flames and says "what happens if the tank dies or loses aggro"

do you really think you will make as much a difference in melee as say a warrior, pally, or rogue? most likely you'll watch everyone around you die then play dead (yea that sword does you, your group, and guild a lot of good)

if you disagree so much then i challenge any hunter to throw down their bow/gun/crossbow whatever, lock their pet up at home, and go for a walk to find the first rogue, pally, or warrior at their level and requesting a melee only duel

this sword is for those who will be keep the mobs from swarming over you bc chances are if your focusing all your attention on melee your ranged attacks must be lacking

Ok so im a 50 pally and have been running ZF since 44 and doing almost nothing else just after these swords. I have only gotten the only 1 and not his one and it is in me off! I have run this dungeon almost 50 times and it has only dropped once...were another pally beat me in need........they should really make this a higher drop...i'm gettin sick of zf and really want this...I dont want to keep runnin when im like 55

Also is that really tru that you can skip that part with the stairs? Cause that would make it alot faster

A 60 Druid, another rogue (lvl 43), and myself (lvl 45 Rogue) made a total of 6 stealth runs into ZF in hopes of landing this sword for me (I'm a sword wielding rogue...the other is a dagger guy). I had gotten Sang on my first ZF run...so, I figured it would be cool to dual wield the two. We stealthed in, took care of the event at the stairs, then killed the chief...rinced/repeated.

While the swords lack big damage numbers, they more than make up for it in pure speed. My DPS is through the roof with these things...now also sporting fiery enchants on both. The added +parry on Sang keeps my Ripost up pretty much constantly (and enough can't be said for disarming your opponent for any amount of time)...and the bubble from Jang has saved me a few times already.

And before the warriors get all upset, I should point out that there literally are NO warriors in my guild...and these were strictly guild runs, so I didn't ninja either sword from anyone.

So...no...these may not be PRIMARILY rogue gear...but if there's not a warrior around, definitely pick these things up.

Now I just have to do it all over again (without the stealth this time) to get them for my Pally (currently lvl 40, so I've got some time) so I can get the epic two-hander.

How on earth did you all get this? I got Sang from antu'sul but I have killed Chief Sandscalp about 10 bazzilion times and it doesn't drop!

This sword AND Sang'thraze dropped in one run on my warrior, but a rogue rolled Need and won.

He put thrash blade in his offhand just to equip it. His Sinister Strike damage must absolutely suck now. I wish I could reach out over the internet and strangle people.

Most unbelievable.

1st run through ZF sang'thraze drops and I win roll.

Guildies decided we would do a run for a player to complete a quest with the idea that this baby might drop for me. mmmmmm dont think so. Guess what? it dropped. Accidently pressed greed instead of need and lost :(

I want to cry.

so i ran ZF for the second time and the deflector dropped, rolled need figuring i could get this sword pretty easily and get the sweet epic.....

i was very wrong, ran about 25 ZF runs and still never even seen it

Was runnin ZF today and this droped .. Second time ive been here .. Im a 49 rogue and this is a little better then the Short Swords of Vengence i was Duel weilding .. won the greed roll and with teh ICY i put on it im a very happy camper at the moment

I was wondering if after you get the two unique swords and combine them to form the epic 2H sword, if you could then get Jang'thraze the Protector again (for 1H and shield use). I often use a 2H for quick-farming mobs or when I have to provide dps in a group but when soloing (especially higher-level mobs) I generally use a fast 1H with a good shield and just outlast them.

Just wondering if anyone had done this?

i've run ZF over a dozen times now. sang'thraze has dropped 3 times. the 1st time i got outrolled by a rogue, the second by a hunter, and the 3rd time i outrolled a hunter. jang'thraze has dropped once, once again, a rogue need rolled and outrolled me. just to clear some things up, WARRIORS AND PALADINS NEED THESE TWO SWORDS MORE THAN YOU NOOBS! last time i checked, rogues can't use the two-handed sword you create with these blades, and even though it isn't completely retarded for a hunter to want these, they still shouldn't be need-rolling on melee weapons if a warrior, paladin, or rogue is in the group. those are melee classes, hunters are ranged.

unless one of these melee classes says that he/she doesn't want the melee weapon, then hunters shouldn't be need-rolling on them. i'm so sick of hunters doing that on swords, axes, and other weapons that they are barely ever going to use. we melee classes don't need-roll on your guns and bows, so let us have the weapons we need unless you want to continue putting up with my pouting. =(

Well I got this sword on the first try from the Chief. Im going tomorrow to try my luck with Anat'Sul. Hopefully I get it =)

BTW I'm a Protection Pally and I use two hand weps and it still works fine. I'm going for it cause it looks badass

When I did ZF the last time, we had a lvl 41 warrior with us. Both swords dropped, and he won both FFS! I said i only needed the protector. But he won both, he combined the swords together, couldn't use it. because he was lvl 41 instead of 50 en DISENCHANTED IT FFS! we were all very mad at him, cuz I could have used it allmost. :(

I say Hunters need this just as bad as any Warrior but thats only if you PVP as much as I do. Any Hunter will know that everyone ignores your pet and goes straight for you. So your gonna need some high power weapons so you can survive.

I've ran ZF like 15 times and only got the deflector with its low drop rate now all I need is this one and I'm all set I can feel it. its only a matter of time until I get it.Good thing I team up with a bunch of people who either don't need it or don't know what the hell its used for. Lucky me.

I had this drop on Zul'jin when playing my warrior and two hunters needed it before I could say anything. One a-hole got it, "Ziv" the other one that rolled was "Umishichil". Beware of these kiddy, loot-!@#$% ninjas.

No other job needs the 2h sword more than warrior. Plain and simple. I got my hands on the 2h and my dps went through the roof. Took many many many runs to get both swords. A rogue ninja'ed a peice before also and main handed it. That pissed me off so bad..

Rogues and no other job like a mage has no reason to even touch these swords. DONT NEED THEM YOU FOOLS.

I just got Jang'thraze today. It looks awesome for one, and it's rather decent in itself. The proc rate isn't very good for me at the moment, cause I'm training in 1h swords so I can duel-wield them both aswell as use Sul.

But once I have Sul'thraze, watch out all you horde on Draenor. ;)

at 45 its pretty much a choice between this and sword of serenity g=for main hand, with vanquisher's sword offhand. this a a better choice then SoS, even tho it is fast

any rogues that roll on this are stupid its a useless main hand at 1.9 speed and the warrior should always get first dibs on this unless he doesnt want it, its only usefull for making sul'thraze, not using them apart there are much better 1h for a rogue or d/w hunter at that lvl

I was running ZF today with 4 other guys that were all in the same guild, me being the sole outsider. This sword dropped and the pally was telling the rogue to "need" it and the priest informed them that it was a warrior weapon. Well we both clicked need and I lost. The pally congratulated the rogue on getting such a "great" 1h weapon.....

I was very dissapointed, kinda hard to get motivated to run that instance again after gettin shafted.

Had run ZF about 30 or 40 times b4 this sword finally dropped! turns out my group wasn't as trustworthy as I had hoped. The entire group needed on it! There was only me and another warrior there so i thought it was going to be me and him. I beat out my entire group with a 100 on the need roll. Got kicked shortly afterwards for "hacking" Just need 4 more lvl b4 i can fuse the 2 :)

How to actually combine the two swords into the epic version:

Note*

"Jang'thraze the protector has a right click ability (when you mouse over it, the text says: "Use: Combine Jang'thraze and Sang'thraze to form the mighty sword, Sul'thraze"), so just right click on Jang'thraze while you have it equipped, so you activate the on use ability.

You are now the proud owner of Sul'thraze la Azotadora/sulthraze-the-lasher

I think there's a bug with the on-use effect for this item in 1.15.2. I got this sword and the the twin (Sang'thraze?), equipped them both, and used them. After some casting, the epic 2h sword was placed in my inventory, but I still had this sword equipped - but the other 1h sword was gone.
