Diablo 4 has been unveiled, going back to the series classic isometric roots in a dark and gritty open world ARPG featuring a non-linear campaign, and being developed for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
World, Legacy, and Darkness
Decades have passed since Malthael's plans to wipe out humanity were foiled, but Sanctuary was devastated in the process. Their cities ruined, protectors slain, and Horadrim reduced to raving old men, the kingdom of Heaven sealed its gates leaving humanity completely been cut off. Lilith, daughter of Mephisto, one of the creators of Sanctuary and originators of humanity, has come back to the world of
Apocalyptic and demonic, darkness isn't just in the art; it's in the world, gameplay, and stories. Not high fantasy, but occult and biblical. Less over the top effects and overpowered feeling characters. Sometimes evil will win, such as the fate of Albrecht from Diablo 1. Follows the feeling of Diablo 2, constantly playing catch up, chasing the forces of evil.
Features
Several features drawn from previous Diablo games.
Five Classes
The character selection screen includes the classic campfire from Diablo 2. Based on what we've seen, there appears to be some amount of appearance customization, with light and dark skinned as well as male and female Barbarians showcased. Five classes are confirmed, though only three revealed so far.
Barbarian
The Barbarian is a tough brawler who focuses on a variety of powerful weapons, and in the spirit of that theme, Barbarians can equip four weapons, swapping between them with various attacks.
Sorceress
The Sorceress is is a conduit of arcane energy, a cross between the Wizard of Diablo 3, and the classes' namesake from Diablo 2.
Druid
The Druid is a shapeshifter, friend to animals, and channeler of elemental magic.
Equipment and Skills
Hundreds of legendaries to equip and an in-depth skill tree which allows players to customize classes to their liking. Rune words are also returning!
Open World
Shared open world with 5 contiguous regions complete with weather and day night cycles and hundreds of dungeons to explore, complete with random events, quests, and battles - areas named so far are Dawnheim Caves, Drowned Caverns, Hangman's Tree, and Keeler Farm.
Mounts
Players will be able to obtain and customize mounts, and will also have access to special dismounting attacks which allow them to get into combat quicker.
