Recreating World of Warcraft zones inside other game engines isn't a new fad, but
Redditor StayAwayMusic
has put a new twist on it, using the Unity game engine to create the Stormwind Meadow - a long lost look at the site of the capital of the Alliance prior to the descendants of Arathor settling down to build Stormwind City roughly 1,200 years before the First War between Orcs and Humans depicted in the original Warcraft.
In vanilla Stormwind, there was no access to the "behind" the city to go into the area where the Stormwind Harbor is.
Technically, in the game data files, there is a mountain on the northwest side of Stormwind where the docks are located. So I'm not sure what the lore is for this, but I assumed that the mountain on the northwest side of Stormwind in vanilla was just "incorrect lore" as it was hardly visible from Stormwind.
For my project, I have assumed that the landscape presented in Retail is more accurate than the landscape in vanilla. Mostly due to the mountain range behind Stormwind, which is accurate in retail but nothing but undeveloped "flat plane" in vanilla.
So for the purposes of my project, I'm assuming that there was a beach located where Stormwind harbor is now at. There also should be a waterfall south of the beach, which I haven't added yet.
Several more pictures were also provided, adding the river and waterfall to Stormwind's natural environment, as well as an aerial shot of the original vanilla city.
The project was done with the Unity engine, for which the redditor has also shared a tutorial video, featuring the Alliance garrison from
Warlords of Draenor
.
