All the Blizz "gods" have left the building. Well, it's quite noticeable in the games as well..
The amount of nonsensical replies here is entertaining, mainly the fact that people forget that Metzen has both been retired for several Years and is still voicing characters in World of Warcraft, and the other employees had similarly swapped jobs or retired in the past few years. This doesn't effect Blizzard in the slightest. Enjoy their games, support them, but none of those spinoff companies look to be doing anything of scale so if you're hoping for AAA Titles you're going to be sorely disappointed.
It's great and heartwarming news in these dark times :) Great to see and hear Thrall yhm .. Chris Metzen hasn't said enough yet and still wants to create wonderful worlds and inspire others. God, it's so nice to listen to the person through whom speaks passion and love for what he does, not money. I hope that HE and the founding fathers will create many more wonderful worlds that will allow people in the world to breathe from this whole $h&T outside, I wish you all good luck and ... For The Horde !
posts like this would be so much better without comments
I'm not saying it's a bad thing or anything but I think it's interesting we've come full circle. We used to play tabletop roleplaying games, then we played online roleplaying games and it seems like we're going back to the tabletop.
Not gonna lie, I've gotten more into stuff like DnD recently. It's going to be fun getting angry at bad dice rolls and stuff like that again.
YEEEEEESSSSSSS! I hope we get some high quality unpainted miniatures to go with it.
I've never enjoyed tabletop much myself, but I'm just glad to hear that Metzen's doing something that makes him happy and I hope the company does well.
No wonder Chris Metzen was my favourite of the Blizzard Bunch :D
People have been saying wow is dying for 16 yrs, yet we are still here lol :D All the naysayers gets lame.
That's cool to hear, but if anyone thinks that spells the end to World of Warcraft doesn't know anything about reality. He's been retired for years, it's not like this is going to be a low blow to Blizzard and WoW. They'll be around for years and years to come.
Honestly I think the videogame market is super hard on developers when they are at their core artists that want to share their own ideas with people. A lot of the spaces on the internet are full of players who think that wow owes it to them to be the game they want, or the game they grew up with, or the game they spend all their time on. If an artists paints a painting that you don't like, you don't buy it. If a songwriter writes a song you don't like, you don't listen to it. But too often when a game designer makes a game decision that fans don't like, it's personal, and it becomes less about "I disagree with your artistic opinion" and more about "why are a bunch of morons in charge of this game, gg it's all over, way to blow it guys." My only hope is that he finds the supportive fan base in tabletop that he used to have in gaming, I know I'll be one.
I'm glad he's still doing gaming stuff BUT to many of us, he will still be Thrall and our Warchief. Good luck to him!
I'm not a tabletop/board games fan, but best wishes for all of them. :)I'll be around. I still enjoy all the warcraft's lore a lot. And Starcraft and Diablo, too :)
I normally don't say this because Rule One is "don't read the comments." But you guys are really toxic. Like, REALLY toxic. If you only read the comments, you'd never be able to figure out if Blizzard/WoW are ACTUALLY dying or if it's the fervent praying of a playerbase that has grown to hate its favorite game.In the interview Metzen makes no mention of toxicity (other than seeming fandom toxicity) and admits that the direction of his new company is more satisfying to him then running a large game studio. How could you glean "Blizzard is a toxic and dying company and this is YET MORE PROOF" from that? It's like you have this crystallized version of "The Good Old Days," and no matter what if anything changes it must be because something bad happened.
I feel like wow toxic fans rag on anyone who is seen as responsible for their dislike of the game and urge them to quit, some even issuing violence and death threats. Then when they do quit fans are like "see something's wrong with the company!". WoW fans can be so incredibly toxic to developers just because they disagree with the current state of the game and those who actually are fine with the current state of the game are called shills and their opinions dismissed because apparently you can't like the game and you have to hate it or you're not allowed to have an opinion.
