El objeto que te dan (Anzuelos de cazavermis) es como un gancho de The legend of Zelda, lo lanzas y te lleva hasta el dragón. Una vez encima puedes pegarle normalmente.

If you're a hunter and don't feel like whacking the stupid things for 10 minutes before the drakes die of boredom, fly up to the top of the obsidian tree and shoot 'em. They don't attack back and it's much faster. :c)

If you are trying to use your hook and it says "Invalid target", make sure you are trying to hook the dragons that are in the area shown in the map and not above the big tree.

Great for skinners, especially if you have any kind of ability that prevents fall damage. Just finish them off, loot, skin, and move onto the next dragon. Provides you with Dragon Flank, Blackened Dragonscale, and Savage Leather.

These mobs are immune to stuns. Frost mages should break out Deep Freeze for an insta-gib.Deep Freeze no longer has a damage component vs. stun-immune targets.

It's perfectly safe to completely kill the drake while riding it; the fall isn't that far.

When I did quest, it clearly would not let me attack the drake I was on. Flew around for 10 minutes trying various things, before coming here to see what I was doing wrong. Saw no mention of it being a buggy quest, but figure I'd make a note that it may be buggy as I can't see anything I was doing different other than not being able to physically attack while on the drake. As stated before, ranged classes such as myself , can just get up in the tree and shoot to your hearts content. They do not fight back, making it easy pickins. There's more than one way to skin a dragon. :P

Also thought I would mention that you can not shoot them from the ground, "effectively." They do not stop and fight, just keep going. :)

are there any pre-reqs for this quest? She offers no quest for me. I am short about 12 quests in the zone for the achievement, and have been flying all over looking for one I may have missed, but have no luck as of yet.

As as skinning mage, leatherworker this is one of my favorite quests and I am seriously thinking about not turning it in ever! Do be careful, you can hook both good and bad drakes. Make certain that you get one of the black flight before claiming the quest is buggy. I don't even bother mounting to hook a drake this can be accomplished from the ground. Been working this quest for thirty mintues and now have tons of savage leather, blackened dragon scales and even dragon flanks to cook up. :)

This one is irritating for any class that uses DoTs as a significant source of DPS, because you can't turn those off when the drake is about to die and half the time you're simply not in range of another one to jump to.

If you fall rather than jump to another drake, you can loot them, and potentially get dragon flank, which is used in feasts.

You also don't fall far enough to take damage, but you might aggro a mob.

I flew up to the top of the big thorn bush tree at 63.9/78.0. Then I targeted a dragon and then spammed lightning bolt. The drake would take damage and eventually die, but would never attack me.

If you got a skinning alt, do not complete that quest on it. Hooks works after you kill 8 dragons, so you can use them all times if you only need leathers or dragonscales. HF with farming :D

If you're a goblin use the Rocket Barrage ability while you're on his back for funny results. The dragon outruns the missle and it hits when he dies.

With DoT, probably with any ranged attack, can just stand on hill at edge of forest and tag the dragons as they fly by. There's some sort of internal fighting going on among all the dragony things, soon as a tagged pyrewing dies, you get credit. Only takes a couple minutes longer than hooking and whacking.

So after Lirastraza explains how excruciatingly painful these are to any dragon, and how this is their last resort, obviously the next logical step is to try using it on your drakes as well. Or maybe it's just to see if it's true what they say about red dragons never killing a friendly mortal.

I would recommend NOT jumping to another drake before it falls. You'll have to rush back to the corpse to loot it, and these guys drop Costillar de dragón rather commonly, which is used in the guild reward recipe Festín de dragón a la parrilla. Even if you're not a cook, the AH is a nice way to get some extra change for your flanks.

Is it not possible to keep the hook item? And still continue the quest chain in Twilight Highlands?

I am thinking I might rather keep the hooks than turn in the quest. I like to get on the dragons with my gnome mage. I type /charge and /cackle and melee the dragon with my staff, hitting it on the head. This makes me lol.

My night elf druid still has the quest item to change into a furlbog, I never returned it and never finished that quest.

Please make this a daily quest, Blizz!

This is part of a questline, which is great for tanks gearing up for heroic because one of the final rewards is Diente de la suerte de Za'brox. It's a longish questline, but well worth doing as this is a really good trinket. It took me about 2 hours to get to the quest that gives this item, I've kept a log of the quests and I hope this post is useful to people considering taking this on. Chains that are marked in Wowhead are grouped together, non-obvious jumps are on the next paragraph.
This post should help people who either found this page and don't know how to get this quest, or who are trying to decide whether to do this questline to get the trinket all us new tanks seem to be after.

It seems this quest may be bugged. My husband is on his warrior right now and is completely unable to attack the drake. He can't auto attack it to gain rage, and without rage, cannot use any abilities.

Attention Warriors:

I've found a much easier way to do it than that listed above.

1) Spec arms.

2) There are all kinds of mobs on the ground required to be killed for a previous quest. Take these guys down, but make sure you conserve rage so that you end the fight with 75+ rage.

3) Quickly mount up and find a drake, chain it.

4) Use rend to proc taste for blood and use overpower and victory rush (from your previous kill on the ground) asap. Continue to use overpower along with colossus smash. If you run into rage problems (shouldn't) simply battle shout for any additional rage required to finish the mob off. Or use deadly calm.

5) Rinse and repeat for the 8 mobs you need. Doing this will get 8/10 mobs on the ground you need for the other quest in the area.

Also a warrior... just completed this by using the above advice and using what tools I had to tag mobs (mostly just plain shooting) then jumping from drake to drake in the general area with the friendly drakes that one shot the hostile ones you're trying to kill. Tag as many as you can by jumping from drake to drake, and you will eventually get it.

Ok I am an undead Warrior and after I got frustrated with this quest trying to figure out a way to get my rage up enough to actually do some dmg I noticed something. First snag your dragon hit battle shout do a couple of hits wont last long without being hit to gain more rage. You can also shot the dragon your on with your ranged weapon I use a bow. Then go ahead and find another dragon going from one to another. Dont worry about how much damage you do or what percentage hp just keep hopping from one to another. By doing this it counts as your kill and when they die and they will more than likely from the ally dragons it still gives the Ato you if you want to loot this wouldnt be the best way but for a warrior this was very easy and the only way I could complete the quest. Also though I didnt try it if you look at your mount it seems you can use your flying mount right off the back of the dragon your trying to kill.

A solid workaround for this bug is to build up your rage on a mob on the ground. After it dies, jump on your flying mount and find a drake to hook. You should have enough damage to kill the drake with roughly 90 rage + battle shout and a victory rush even if you are still leveling and gearing. It's a bit tedious, but is still very fast compared to shooting and trying to get lucky with red drake kills.

As a fury warrior I experienced same problem of being out of range. What I did was to find a mob on ground and build up a full rage bar - killed the mob, looted it and then hooked a dragon. With a more or less full rage bar i had enough of the heavy blows to kill the dragon. Only once I had to use the Battle Blow - Beserker Rage option.

When the dragon fell to the ground I followed it down without taking damage - found a new mob and then it was just rince and repeat.

Although Lirastrasza offers a reward for us plate-wearing warriors, we really deserve something much nicer for having to use our brains much more than we're used to in order to complete a quest, never mind that we don't get to have any fun either (poor warriors; same story, different day).

Tag and Bag Method
Warriors may have the problem of not being able to generate enough rage to sustain an attack on the beast they hook, so they may want to try this for quick results: Forget about the hook. Go a few yards south of the quest giver to the edge of the quest zone. Target incoming and spawning Obsidian Pyrewing dragons. Tag them with Shoot or Throw and watch where they fall after your Dragonkin allys have killed them. Sometimes the Pyrewing you hit fly off into the distance, and you can pursue, but it's easier just to wait where you are for easier pickings to fly by you. After you've tagged a few Pyrewing, you can mount up and scout around for you kills, as they're fairly easy to spot.

For Arms warriors, I found two ways to kill them while the bug isn't fixed:

1) Charge up your rage bar using the dragonkin on the ground before quickly grabbing one of the drakes

2) Use Deadly Calm (and maybe one of your shouts for rage) to kill a drake.

Using 1) and 2) in turns should allow you to kill drakes with (nearly) no downtime in between.

Just did this in a timely manner as an ARMS Warrior.

The main problem is that you don't stay in combat even if you attack it. So you gotta spam your ranged attack. Stay in combat, and eventually Anger Management will render you able to do something.

Strategy:

- Glyph of Berserker Rage. Honestly though, you should already have this glyphed, Warrior minor glyphs truly are MINOR.
- Booming Voice helps, but don't respec for that :P
- Keep REND up. Taste For Blood is essential as you don't have much rage to work with and OVERPOWER only uses 5 while doing pretty good damage.

Battle Shout > Berserker Rage > Rend > Overpower > Spam Ranged > Repeat

EDIT: Meh, I thought about it way too much. Use the post above me lol... it's much more simple hahaha... Ahhhh overthinking things.

What I did.. Still takes longer than necessary.. but I went : Arms, battle stance. You get more options this way and you get yer bleed affects and a good DoT is always good when yer auto's dont work :)

Ok so this is my first comment on wowhead. On my warrior alt I found this quest quite annoying. I tried flying around and killing the drakes with no luck, like some said before they regen 2% of their HP every so often.

I noticed that some would be flying lower than others and I tried running around trying to tag those with little luck. it works but its just as annoying as flushing your own head.

What worked: I went to this spot 59.68, 74.75 thats where the dragons spawn one after the other. I just used shoot and shot em as they spawned and let them fly off. a little while later I get credit for the kills. took me less than 5 mins doing it this way.

for anyone who can't attack without generating resources (warriors), i have a workable solution.

Fly behind a black drake, within range of heroic throw. Dismount and cast heroic throw while falling. When the black drake makes a lap around the tree, the red drakes should kill it, giving you the credit. Using this method i completed the quest in about 5 minutes...

...after being stuck on a drake for 15 minutes with no way to damage it or get off. fun times.

For an arms warrior

1. beat up some mob on the ground to get rage
2. hop on a drake
3. rend/overpower until it's "dead". If you run out of rage, battle shout and deadly calm should help.

just fill up ur rage at the mobs behind and use the hooks asap then kill the drake while u still have rage and ofc use our shout and zerg rage

Thanks to this great thread my prot warrior was able to complete this quest. What I did:

1) Hook a black drake and board it.
2) Shoot it once with my bow.
3) Hook a passing black drake and board it.
4) Repeat steps 2-3 until the 8th kill eventually registered.

Overall it took less than 5 minutes, probably about 3 (I didn't time it).

Easy!

There seems to be no way around this bug. There is something you can do though. Beat on one of the ground dragonkin till you have a full rage bar then hook a drake so your battle shout will be off cd and you will have quite a bit of rage to work with. I found using this method I got the drake down to the point where he was mortally wounded reasonably quickly, so I just rode him to the ground and found another dragonkin to beat on. The quest wasn't too much of a drama doing it this way.

For warriors who have the problem of running out of rage when doing this quest:

All you have to do is get on your flying mount, hook one, then challenge shout (to gain rage) and rend, then hook another one. Once you tag it, it will eventually die in a fight and you will get credit for it. You can shoot others too but that is a pain in the a..

I ran into the same issue. I got around it by shooting them with gun, mind you they auto-healed and disengaged combat, then hop to another and repeat. I just kept doing this and randomly I would get credit for killing one. Not sure why.

I won't reiterate the excellent points made above, beyond the following handy tips:

Bind the Wyrmhunter Hooks to an easily-accessed key
Scroll your view (and view distance, if possible) out as far as you can.

I'm not sure if anyone else has had this experience or not, but this quest is quite annoying as an Assassination Rogue. While riding a drake you do not auto attack, which means you're getting very few poison procs. On top of that, infrequent poison procs means you'll go long periods of time without being able to use Envenom. I was doing so little DPS at some points that the drakes' health actually started regenerating faster than it was dropping for a few moments. So any Assassination Rogues out there take heed, add Eviscerate back on to your bars for this quest and spare yourself some frustration.

As a skinner, do NOT turn this quest in. You can easily farm the dragons on the ground for skin I realize, but it goes much quicker and is much easier if you just keep the hook, kill the flying dragons and then skin them when they die. This is the fastest way I found to grind leather and dragonscales. I would say you get about half and half for leather and dragonscales, maybe even more scales. Even if you are not farming for the scales, they sell for a lot on the AH. This is also a great place to farm leather because you can quickly go over and get the leatherworking plans from the towns next to the area. And although it is not the fastest way to gain volatiles, you still do get some occasionally from the bladders you pick up from the mobs.

I use this macro for my leatherworker, and it works like a charm:

I hotkeyed it. Remember, you can also shoot these off while in combat, so if you do not want to bother with the pesky ground dragons, feel free to shoot at a flying one.

As a plus, you can make heavy leather ON the dragon. If you really, really want to. And don't mind that it's from his friends.

THIS IS HOW THE QUEST WAS MEANT TO BE DONE AND ITS FUN AS HELL....

I used 2 macros and found this quest to be VERY VERY fun!

Macro # 1 is used to grab an enemy dragon…

Beat on said dragon until you get the warning message saying its about dead…

THEN… (Since its not possible to make a macro to jump from your dying dradon to a new enemy dragon you use)... use...

Macro #2 TO JUMP TO A FRIENDLY DRAGON!

/use wyrmhunter hooks

Once safely on the friendly dragons back, you can easily use the first macro to find your next victim. I found that I could kill all of the dragons without touching the ground. I also found that the friendly dragon macro was great for getting out of trouble when I accidentally aggro'ed 3-4 of the ground mobs at once.

Now (as mentioned in another post) I actually DO wish this was a daily…

This quest blows hard. I recommend a macro to target them or you will fall off.

Basically you shoot one, ride it, while on it attack it, then it reaches a point where it just drops out of the sky and dies. Before that happens u need to harpoon another or fall and be forced to walk around enemies while targeting another.

Also it is Bugged for Warriors or classes that can not attack without building rage first. so rogues and warriors will have an issue with this quest.

Try a simple auto attack.
